With an on-premise licence, the Microsoft Dynamics 365 software is installed on your own computers and network. The licence can be purchased on a perpetual or subscription basis.
Generally, though not always, on-premise licences would be more suitable for companies that have an established IT support team and the appropriate IT infrastructure.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement is available in one edition where each user must be covered by a Client Access LIcense.
The Workgroup edition, available in earlier editions, has been removed.
Existing Microsoft Dynamics Customers
If you already have other Microsoft Dynamics products such as GP, NAV or AX then you may be able to acquire Microsoft Dynamics CRM as part of your existing licensing package.
If you don't use other Microsoft Dynamics products then you must acquire CRM through a volume licensing program such as Open License (less than 250 PCs) or Select Plus or Enterprise (250 PCs or more).
You can also use Dynamics 365 on-premises via dual-use rights if you have a Dynamics 365 online subscription.
